
Ambalat PSC located in the Tarakan Basin, offshore northeast Kalimantan with covers area 1,990 sq km. This block has been dispute since 2004 between Indonesia and Malaysia.
The block was signed on September 27, 1999 awarded to Ambalat Shell B.V., as operator a unit of Anglo-Dutch of Royal Dutch Shell Plc. In November 1999, consortium of ARCO (now BP), Lasmo (now ENI), and Unocal (now Chevron) acquired 60% of block interest. In October 2001, Shell withdrew from this block and handed over the concession to ENI (55% as operator) and Chevron (45%). In 2003, Occidental Petroleum acquire 25% interest of the block and resigned in March 2006 leaving the block interest to ENI (66.25%) and Chevron (33.75%). In June 2006, Chevron farm-out 33.75% interest to Anadarko Petroleum. In February 2013, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) acquired Anadarko’s interest 33.75% through Anadarko Ambalat Ltd.
The block still in exploration phase. In June 2000, ENI has been drilled and no result. There is no activity in the block since dispute over the block arose in 2004.
